“Growing up has just begun, but there’s a place we can find where this pain is useless, and we’ll forever be the young.”
Today is my golden birthday! It’s the one birthday I’ll have on which the age I turn is the same as the date on the calendar. I remember imagining how fun it would be, and as a kid, this age seemed so far off in the future. Birthdays are always exciting, but this year feels different. Better, brighter and bigger things!
The outpouring of love and attention on my birthday always fills me with overwhelming gratitude. I’m lucky to have a great, worldwide network of amazing people who think of me on my special day. Despite being hundreds and even thousands of miles away in some cases, my friends and family rallying behind me always means so much. While distance does put a strain on some relationships, my loved ones have shown me that at the end of the day, they’re here for me.
Growing up, I was always involved in many different things – school, after-school activities, summer camp, study abroad, etc. and have therefore developed friendships with people all over the country and world. I often have trouble planning a celebration for my birthday, as it’s impossible to get groups of people together from different places. This year, I wanted to do something extra special, so I’m going on an adventure with my best friends to Atlantic City for the first time. And who knows, hopefully I’ll return with more money than I arrive with.
I, presumably like many others, decided at the end of last year that 2015 was going to be different. So far, it certainly has been so I can’t wait to see what the rest of this year has in store. Adulthood is scary, but it’s also pretty thrilling.
